Deadspin editor A.J. Daulerio (pictured above with Sean Salisbury) kindly responded to our query about his post about an obscene email allegedly sent by Phil Savage. Daulerio acknowledged that by running such a post without discussing the email's source, or questioning its authenticity, he, as editor of the worldwide leader of sportsblogs, reflects poorly on bloggers in general, and makes it harder (at least theoretically) for all bloggers to obtain information and an audience. He told us that he "should have done a better job questioning the accuracy of [the Savage email] in the original post but [he] was under the impression based on how heavily it had been forwarded that it made the rounds. "Daulerio also updated his post, explaining that the email was forwarded to a radio station in Pittsburgh, WXDX, and that "skepticism about legitimacy of the email is warranted." He also recommended that we "keep this in the 'might be a prank' file," until he can verify the email's authenticity. This is all far more reasonable than the original post. Daulerio's gut feeling is that "the person in charge of fielding Savage's email went a little haywire." We're skeptical of this as well, as its hard for us to believe that Savage would turn over his official email account to someone who'd do such a thing, but A.J. seems to trust his source. Anyway, we appreciate the response, and the update. There's a decent analysis of this issue at a site called Midwest Sports Fans, and Florio ran an update as well.
In other news, we figured out a reason to pick tonight's NFL game. We'll be back with that later.

Good to see Daulerio take some responsibility.
Also, Frowns, before you pick tonight's game consider this:

The entire left side of the Bengals starting O line is out tonight. James Harrison is going to get very intimate with Ryan Fitzpatrick tonight.
Your watchdoggedness was right on, even if Savage (or Crennel) just admitted he did in fact send it. Good on ya.
Well done, CF!
Rizzo had the guy who got the email on the air today and he was really embarrassed. He said he felt really bad about it after reading what he sent Savage and that he sent him 2 follow up emails to apologize. The story is on the up and up though. My 2 cents is that I don't really give a shit that Savage sent it. He was within his rights and I don't even like Savage.
How about you guys make sure you know what your talking about before you trash a much better sportsblog in Deadspin.com
