Weekend Frowndup!

If you're anything like us, the dearth of YouTube videos of the Cleveland Browns tailgate scene is something that bothers you.  So you'll be glad to see this one, which looks to have taken place at the Bengals game two weeks ago.  It starts to get really good at about the 40 second mark. Stunning cinematography.

If you happen to be in Cleveland this weekend and attending your first Browns game (we know there will be at least a few) you should let that video soak in, as well as this profoundly transportive photo essay, for better bearings to help ensure the smoothest kind of life-changing weekend.   And this contemplative list from Don Delco on his 30th birthday of 30 reasons why he loves his Cleveland Browns.

Ghosts of Brownies Future?  Here's a nice farewell to Sam Bradford from EDSBS
"For two years Bradford was incendiary, throwing for 7,841 yards and 86 TDs in that span and operating one of the most productive offenses of his time running at full-bore off his snap release, booming arm, and sometimes telepathic ability to see holes in defenses. He did this as a freshman and sophomore. People are not supposed to be able to breeze in and do this as underclassmen, but Sam Bradford read that coverage, too, and passed right through it."
Don't think we won't be keeping a close eye on the draft status of the official citizen of Cherokee Nation,* who might be Brownstown's very best hope to kill Wahoo's Curse.  We couldn't really have Wahoo and Bradford in town at the same time, could we?  How rude would that be?

BCS Talk:  Another piece via EDSBS, from the Atlanta Journal Constitution's Tony Barnhart, who says that "there CAN be an Alabama-Florida rematch for the BCS title."  He asks, semi-rhetorically, "[i]f you’re a voter in one of the polls, do you put a 12-0 Iowa into the big game over a 12-1 SEC team that just lost a close game to the No. 1 or No. 2 team in the nation?"  But the answer here is probably, "yes, I do put 12-0 Iowa into the big game."  Assuming no hidden agendas here, if the rational preference is that of a playoff, folks will be inclined to give Iowa a first fair shot rather than see Alabama and Florida go at it again.  Of course, all of this leaves aside that Bama will beat concussed-aardvark-led Florida something like 46-3.

Here's another good video:  From the folks who brought us "Notorious Cavs," this one's called "A Ring for the King," to the tune of Bone's "Ghetto Cowboy."  You have to listen at least once.

And a useful flowchart, explaining Shaq's role in the Cavaliers offense.

And a useful non-sports story about a Craigslist ad.  Because it's especially good before the weekend to remember how different people can be.  We like how the girls who were previously hired "couldn't handle it," but we always hate to see folks get in trouble for trying to make an honest deal.  (h/t: El Capitan)

That's all for today, folks.  We'll be back this weekend with Cheddar Bay analysis, and the NCAA and NFL picks.  We'd say more about the sportswriters conference that's here in Cleveland this weekend if we didn't think that this might be the most interesting tweet about the one that was just in Las Vegas.  So we'll just say that we're looking forward to a fun time.

Happy weekend, everyone.

*"Bradford is the first person of Cherokee descent to start at quarterback for a Division I university since Sonny Sixkiller, a full-blooded Cherokee, who played for the University of Washington during the 1970-72 seasons."

For the record---I don't want that bum Bradshaw on this team. He is not going to be a good pro player.

How do you know he will not be a good pro player smittypop2?!? Last time i checked he still in college and he is a good college player, not sure where you are getting your info from? Also DA is not a good passer, where are you getting your info sammy? check out his stats. he sucks.

smitty can predict the future. just a hunch, Jack...just don't think he will be that good. I've (and smitty) been wrong before. And DA does throw a nice ball when given time and decent WRs to throw to (would you have considered him a good "passer" 2 years ago)...that's all I'm sayin. Browns need help in other areas and would rather them give our current QBs a little more time to develop and draft on the defensive side, where I think we need the most help and based on the value of defensive players in the top 7 spots in the draft where the Browns will probably be picking.

Thanks Sammie....couldn't have said it better myself. I just don't like the guy. It is my opinion and I clearly have been wrong before. He just seems severely overrated and I wouldn't take him in the top 5-10 picks when we could get a nice DE, LB, CB or Safety (see Berry, Eric). I would take Jimmy Clausen or someone else a bit later on if we have the option. I think he will be a more viable pro player (or at least try to develop Quinn if we don't trade him).

DA does have a good arm, just lacks the touch in short passing situations, I agree we need a stud safety in this draft, a playmaker who can come up and support against the run, havent seen that in cleveland in years. Our defensive backfield just wants to drag people down instead of popping them. Im with you smitty-we can get a decent qb later than our first pick.

I think you guys are selling Bradford way short...he was the lock #1 last year if he came out, but anyway, will Claussen go any later than 1st round?

I don't care if Bradford is the number one again this year. I don't think he is going to be very good. JaMarcus Russell was the #1 pick and he sucks my bizzies. Just because Mel Kiper likes some guy doesn't make me like some guy. Jimmy Clausen is probably a first round pick, but maybe lower first round. I have no idea if he enters the draft this year or not. I just read a bunch of NFL draft websites/blogs that have McCoy and Tebow going in the first round. Hilarious.
