The legend Tony Grossi says, “Great Caesar’s Ghost, no!” in an aggressive column at ESPNCleveland.com in which he addresses the idea, most recently floated by the NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora, that NFL Network “Insider” Mike Lombardi — a former personnel guy with the Browns back in the 90s who went on to become the Oakland Raiders GM who presided over the selection of JaMarcus Russell with the first overall pick — would be a candidate for the Browns GM position.
Based on what we know, it’s hard to argue with Grossi’s conclusion:
- Our response to Lombardi’s 2010 pre-draft reports that Joe Haden was “too slow to play cornerback,” and unworthy of a top ten draft pick (with a special note on how Lombardi responded to one of our emails by asking: “Where did you learn the game? Can you get anyone from the NFL to return your calls?”);
- And our response to an absurdly malicious and mendacious hit piece that Lombardi published on Eric Mangini in 2009 at the National Football Post.
We’ll be back shortly with an Xs and Os post.
